I love to get hands-on with new gear. And as a longtime Sonos user, I was especially excited to try out Arc, their most impressive sound bar yet.
Sonos already holds the top three spots in our sound bar lineup, based on customer reviews. And after a week of rig- orous testing, I have no doubt that Arc will continue this five-star trend.
Atmos comes to Sonos
If you've been to the movies in the last few years, you've probably experienced the enveloping sound of Dolby Atmos . There are a growing number of ways to achieve that heightened soundstage at home, but very few are as elegant as Arc. To get a true Atmos signal to Arc, you will need a fairly new TV. It turns out my 2016 model can't do it. But here's the good news: when Arc isn't getting an Atmos signal, the upward-firing speakers adjust to deliver more low-end frequen- cies. So even if your content doesn't have height channels - or your TV can't pass them - you'll still benefit from the meticu- lous engineering that went into this bar. When I put on a Blu-ray of the latest Ghostbusters , my husband - familiar with my frustrations over our TV's lack of Atmos pass-through - actually said "So wait, this isn't Atmos?" It was pretty darn immersive (a word that is overused in this business, but very accurate when it comes to Arc).
